The California Elections Code in sections 19370, 19380, and 19384 requires the results from each machine at the polling place to be posted for the public to see, e.g. EC 19370 states:
One copy of the statement of return of votes cast for each machine shall be posted upon the outside wall of the precinct for all to see. This applies to any voting machine or optical scanners which accumulates totals; i.e. almost all the voting machines and scanners used in California.
One cross-check for election integrity is to copy this information and later compare it to to the published results from the canvass.
If possible, arrive before 8:00 p.m. and watch the precinct workers close the polls and watch them print the results from the voting machines (this is public according to EC 19370 and 19380).
If the precinct officers are not going to post the results (violating the Elections Code), see if you can copy the results anyway, e.g. by the precinct board members reading them out loud (as in section 19370 of the Elections Code) or by copying them from a display on a screen.
Also, if you can see the problem/exception log, copy down any interesting information from it, e.g. if the vendor or County staff had to fix a machine, etc.
If you arrive after the polls are closed, just copy the results posted outside the precinct. Keep the copy you have made, make sure to time and date it, and also submit the information at:

Even if the results are not posted, submit this form anyway. We want to know how well the California Elections Code is being followed.
