Petition to the Alameda County Board of
Supervisors
Whereas:
-
The Diebold system does not conform to the requirements of the California
Elections Code and the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA),
-
Diebold has repeatedly provided uncertified software for use in
elections,
-
Diebold systems have resulted in incorrect vote totals and
disenfranchisement of voters,
-
The Diebold system does not have sufficient safeguards against bugs,
hacking, or malicious code,
We, the undersigned, in order to protect the integrity of
elections in Alameda County and restore citizen confidence in the
electoral system, urge the Supervisors of Alameda County, for the Special
Election and beyond, to:
- Rescind your prior vote to begin negotiations
with Diebold and
resolve to NOT buy Diebold election systems,
- Use paper ballots that are hand-counted
(non-provisional and in all the required languages),
- Meet HAVA requirements of equal disability access by offering voters
a ballot-marking device that issues a paper ballot, also to be
hand-counted,
- Adopt strictly publicly owned and operated or non-profit,
and transparent, voting systems and procedures.
